Billie Marten is pleased to announce details of her fifth album, Dog Eared, set for release on July 18 via Fiction Records.
The prolific British singer-songwriter traveled to New York in the summer of 2024 to record with producer Phil Weinrobe (Adrianne Lenker, Buck Meek, Laura Veirs) at his Sugar Mountain studio. She was joined by an all-star cast of musicians, including Catalan singer-songwriter/guitarist Núuria Graham, bassist Josh Crumbly, virtuoso guitarist Mike Haldeman, multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily, indie-rock musician Sam Evian, former Dirty Projectors vocalist/folk musician Maia Friedman, Brazilian percussionist Mauro Refosco, drummer/multi-instrumentalist Vishal Nayak, and acclaimed folk musician Sam Amidon.
This lineup of exceptional talent brings a wealth of experience, with cumulative credits spanning records by Cassandra Jenkins, Kamasi Washington, Moses Sumney, Robert Glasper, Tune-Yards, Empress Of, Nick Hakim, David Byrne, Atoms for Peace, Feist, and Bonnie “Prince” Billy—now adding Billie Marten to the list.
Dog Eared is a warm, rich, and textured record that bristles with confidence and self-belief. Billie is already approaching the prolificacy of a “lifer,” yet with so much life left to live. It marks a subtle yet distinct departure from her previous recordings, showcasing a musician embracing change while staying true to her core identity.
With this album, Billie Marten asserts herself not only among her acclaimed American contemporaries but also at the forefront of British contemporary folk and songwriting as a whole. Dog Eared solidifies her place at the top of the tree of British songwriters, effortlessly blending tradition with evolution
