Superb 1986 festival broadcast from the legends of progressive rock, Marillion!Formed in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in 1979, Marillion emerged from the post-punk scene in Britain and existed as a bridge between styles of punk and classic prog-rock, becoming the most commercially successful neo-progressive rock band of the 1980s.Marillion have maintained a hugely loyal international fanbase, becoming widely acknowledged as playing a pioneering role in the development of crowdfunding and fan-funded music.They have sold over 15 million albums worldwide.Marillion’s third and commercially most successful studio album was “Misplaced Childhood”, which had a more mainstream sound than their previous records.The lead single, ‘Kayleigh’, received major promotion by EMI and gained heavy rotation on BBC Radio 1 and other radio stations as well as television appearances, bringing the band to the attention of a much wider audience.In the summer of 1986, the band played to their biggest ever audience as special guests of Queen at the Open-Air festival in Mannheim, Germany, attended by a crowd of over 150,000 people.Performing a stunning set, Marillion came of age at this show, and have remained a quite remarkable live attraction ever since.The entire festival was broadcast live on German radio and TV, and this new 2LP set now includes Marillion’s entire performance from this extraordinary event.
