Wishing to perform the later-day sound of his former band Ride, vocalist/guitarist Andy Bell formed Hurricane # 1. Andy Bell decided to go Britpop. In other words, Hurricane #1s eponymous debut sounds a bit like Oasis, only with a fondness for Madchester rhythms, trancey interludes and extended jams. The single from this album that really hit big was “Step Into My World” which in the US was featured in the TV ads for the new VW Beetle, a great song with great lyrics and a great guitar cord. “Strange Meeting” and “Monday afternoon” are both classics. There are some great organ & synth solos in these songs as well as guitar solos. Hurricane #1 throws 70s classic rock, mid 90s Britpop, and Madchester all together and makes it work!
