Experimental Irish artist pigbaby shares his 11-track debut album, ‘I don’t care if anyone listens tothis shit once you do’. Mixed by Rainy Miller, theLP is presented in 3mm spine sleeve designed byLifeIsUnfair on PLZ Make It Ruins. Drawing from a surreal, daydream-like cloud of reference points, the songwriting of mysteriousIrish artist pigbaby is painfully honest, andsonically unconventional, drawing on themesincluding love, loss, mental health and identity. Hismusic shares parallels with oddball auteurs suchas Daniel Johnston and Jim O’Rourke -experimental, ambient singer-songwriters who dealin rough-edged truth-telling. During a period of particular bleakness in 2021,pigbaby fled the world he knew and travelled alongwindy, wet roads to find a small cottage in the Irishcountryside to nest in. Armed with three bottles ofwhiskey, some potatoes and sausages, oldsynthesisers, a harmonium and cassette tapes hefound in his mother’s attic, pigbaby planned tomake his debut album. Over the course of twomonths many people came to visit, and with thehelp of Max Granger, Maria Somerville, FelixStephens and Cajm, pigbaby crafted a record oflove, heartbreak, hope and remembering his past.
