Photographer Nina Mosley (Nia Long) vows that she will not become involved in another relationship after she is jilted by her fiancé Marvin Cox. When Darius Lovehall (Larenz Tate) dedicates a poem to her on stage at a club called the Sanctuary, she is attracted to him but initially refuses to go on a date. Darius uses all his charm to woo Nina, but even when they become romantically involved, each denies that it is a love thing. When Marvin asks Nina back, she and Darius have to decide just how serious their affair really is.
