US horror directed by Abel Ferrara. New York philosophy student Kathleen Conklin (Lili Taylor) is attacked one night by a woman (Annabella Sciorra) who sucks blood from her neck. Kathleen is repulsed to find herself transformed into a vampire, unable to stand bright daylight and forced to take blood from a down-and-out through a syringe. She gradually comes to terms with her new state, however, with the help of vampire guru Peina (Christopher Walken), and her altered perspective on life leads to her taking a fresh interest in her philosophy classes. But as her bloodlust increases, those around her soon find themselves in grave danger.
