This compilation sees the return of Acid Jazz’s iconic‘Totally Wired’ series, which became a huge success in theearly 1990s, following the international breakthrough of thelikes of The Brand New Heavies, Jamiroquai and theJames Taylor Quartet.
Originating in 1988, initially compiled by Eddie Piller andGilles Peterson as a ‘Best Of’, the ‘Totally Wired’ seriesbecame an independent music phenomenon, selling in thetens of thousands, with major label artists even vying forinclusion, with a significant influence in shaping the soundof the time as Acid Jazz went global.
The return of ‘Totally Wired’ is a milestone that continuesto showcase the depth and development of Acid Jazz,combining new and exclusive releases with previouslyunheard gems.
Highlights include an exclusive unreleased track from MattBerry, ‘Crucifix Lane’, following the release of his Top 30album ‘Heard Noises’ in January, a new track from sceneveteran Chris Bangs – ‘Tambores De Vida’, a white labelcut from Soul Revivers’ forthcoming album (featuringKokoroko’s Shiela Maurice-Grey and Anoushka Nanguy),plus recent releases from the wider scene, from BDQ, TheRomero Brothers and the remarkable UK soul singerCarmy Love.
Meanwhile, new signings Earth-o-Naut and Quiet Fireappear alongside label legends The Brand New Heavies,who offer an outstanding funk take on Aretha Franklin’s‘Rock Steady’, and the Acid Jazz Orchestra’s one-offrelease, taking on Corduroy’s ’Something In My Eye’ – thefirst-time vinyl release of these titles.
