This 2LP record will be released on 180g vinyl and will be available from CladdaghRecords.com in partnership with Craft Recordings and in stores from Friday 17th March 2023. Formed in Dublin in 1962, The Chieftains are a six-time Grammy Award winning traditional Irish folk band. Awarded the title of ‘Ireland’s Musical Ambassadors’ in 1989, The Chieftains have been credited for bringing Irish music to a wider audience, popularising it around the world. Founded in 1962 by Paddy Moloney, Sean Potts and Michael Tubridy, the group had achieved great success in Ireland and the United Kingdom by the 1970s. In 1973, their popularity spread to the United States where their previous albums were released by Island Records, and worked on the Stanley Kubrick Barry Lyndon soundtrack. Successfully releasing records throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the band went on to collaborate with an amalgamation of musical icons such as Luciano Pavarotti, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Sinéad O’Connor, Roger Daltrey and Van Morrison. Last year, in anticipation of their 60th anniversary, Claddagh Records released Chronicles: 60 years of The Chieftains: a stunning career retrospective that featured tracks from across the revered band’s discography. 2022 also marked the release of Bear’s Sonic Journals – The Foxhunt, The Chieftains Live in San Francisco, 1973 & 1976 – a never-released-before project from The Owsley Stanley Foundation and Claddagh Records, featuring the last ever interview with legendary member of The Chieftains, the late Paddy Moloney.
