Twenty-six years ago, Joe Grushecky got a solid from an old friend.
The veteran Pittsburgh rocker, best known for leading the Iron City Houserockers , had returned to "mainstream society" during the early 1990s, working as a special-education instructor in the public school system.
He never lost the rock 'n' roll jones, however, and as he began thinking about his new album Grushecky's wife suggested calling on an old friend to help out — Bruce Springsteen.
Springsteen was amenable, producing, playing and co-writing songs for “ American Babylon,” Grushecky's eighth album with the Houserockers.
That made news when it was released back in 1995, and Springsteen upped the ante by doing a brief tour with the Houserockers to promote it.
