An absolute peak of the repertoire, Book Two of The Well-Tempered Clavier reveals twenty-four preludes and fugues in which Bach pushes invention and the art of counterpoint to a higher level than anyone before him.
The superb 1740 Hass harpsichord proves the ideal partner for Benjamin Alard to highlight the work’s dramatic power and its palette of colours.
In addition, two recently discovered early Chaconnes throw new light on the Cantor’s youthful creativity.
