"I guess you could call it a lost album," says Rodney Crowell. "I came across it by chance in my archive at home. I had completely forgotten about it." He is talking about "Then Again", which he recorded two decades ago and then put aside before moving on to new projects. Since then, the album has been waiting for the moment when his songs would unfold their full effect. And now they seem incredibly strong, mainly because Crowell's age and experience have given him a more mature perspective. "I'm glad I put it on the back burner because now is the time. It might not be the right time for the rest of the world yet, but it is for me. That's why I wanted to call it 'Then Again'. I thought it was a clever way of saying that what happened then is still happening now."
in 2006, Crowell was at the height of his success. He had just released a trilogy of albums - "The Houston Kid" (2001), "Fate's Right Hand" (2003) and "The Outsider" (2005) - that established him as a fearless voice in Americana music and inspired new generations of fans who were drawn to his insightful storytelling, richly detailed songwriting and eloquent outrage at political injustice. in 2005, he went to Treasure Isle Studios in Nashville to record the album that would later become "Then Again". But when he heard the master tapes, something didn't feel quite right. The band was great and the songs sounded good, but the album... It didn't touch him, and he struggled to figure out exactly what was wrong or missing. Twenty years later, when he found the album in his archive, he couldn't remember exactly what had confused him so much. He decided it was finally time, if only because "I was listening to a record I wasn't sick of. I wasn't sick of myself. That's what 20 years does."
Once lost and now found, "Then Again" is something the Rodney Crowell of the 2000s could never have predicted, but the Rodney Crowell of the 2020s instinctively recognizes: a work full of nuance, insight and sensitivity that addresses death but celebrates life. "I'm trying to understand that my spirit is going to leave this body and go somewhere else. I have a pretty good idea that it will be a good place, but I still have part of my spiritual journey to complete here before I go. I can see that now in these songs."

In the unlikely event you receive an item from us that is either defective or faulty, please let us know so we can arrange collection of the item and dispatch a replacement as soon as possible.
