Various Artists - Jon Savage's 1966: The Year The Decade Exploded Various Artists
Pickup currently unavailable at Dawson Street
A WELCOME RETURN TO THE ACE CATALOGUE THIS NOVEMBER * The soundtrack to Jon Savage's book of the same name, exploring 1966 - "the year the decade exploded" - via one essay and one record per month * Makes the case that the 7-inch single captured the era's ideas and intensity better than any album could * Several tracks tie directly to specific chapters, from CND protest to The Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol * Also stands alone as a mix of the familiar and the obscure, tracing mod pop, soul, Motown and the first stirrings of psychedelia * Rooted in Savage's own memory of turning 13 that year, glued to pirate station Radio Caroline South
